I used to be the teacher who fought against school advisory. Looking back, I wasn't resisting relationship-building—I was afraid of failing at it. As a chemistry teacher, I knew how to connect through my subject, but I had no idea how to build relationships with students I didn't teach. What I thought was defiance was actually survival. This is the story of how one simple shift changed everything and ultimately inspired the creation of the Peer Impact Program.

The fear of making mistakes in school is shaping how students learn, lead, and see themselves. When preparation is mistaken for readiness, students avoid risk instead of building resilience. This reflection explores how mistakes, not perfection, develop confident learners and authentic leaders.
